IN THE EYE OF THE TIGER

Survival Principles from Stallone's life and films.
"Rocky turned out to be the kind of a metaphor for everyone's struggle. It wasn't about me, Sylvester Stallone, and money."
"It was just about wanting to fail on your own terms."
"Rocky never though he'd succeed. But like him, I just wanted to try. Little did I know that 20 years later, that philosophy would end up being respected."
-- SYLVESTER STALLONE

ROCKY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT WINNING, all he wants is to go the distance, to prove he is good enough for himself and all the little guys pinning their hopes on an underdog taking home the big prize.
In the end Rocky loses the fight, but he is still on his feet as the final bell is rung, which is his real triumph. Not because he loses, but to show there is more than one way to win.
The Eye Of The Tiger is a feeling, an awareness and a belief that there is something greater for us to achieve, and reach for in life than what we seemingly are in this present reality.
It is a call of duty that we must heed, a voice from our conscience that compels us to reach the destiny of our restless soul.
As Stallone comes full circle in his life and his acting career in 1996 on the 20th anniversary celebration of Rocky, and his decision to quit action films after Daylight, he leaves behind a legacy to the world with his films which speak about courage and heroism.
Standing up for your dreams, instead of watching them wash down the drain is the theme incorporated in Stallone's earlier blockbuster films such as Rocky I-V, First Blood to Rambo III, Cobra, Over The Top, and Lock-Up.
Stallone's climb to stardom is a rags to riches story by itself, about how he went the distance to fulfill an incredible dream with his own creation Rocky Balboa.
He rewrites most of his screenplays and injects messages of hope and determination because he believes it is too easy to write about negative things.
Even as we speed towards the next millenium, the themes incorporated in his films such as The World Meets Nobody Halfway, Staying Hungry Staying Natural and living life in The Eye Of The Tiger, will always stand as a beacon of hope to life's underdogs in the process of redeeming themselves.
Let's take a trip down memory lane and look at Stallone's films once again, and study the principles that make him a living legend and the greatest action star of all times. Let's discover the nuggets of truth expounded in his films as we live for the future.

Going The Distance With Rocky.
"I want to give the audience positive symbols, heroines, and heroes who pull themselves up from the depths of despair. As they struggle and claw and finally attain their goals, viewers can realise `My God, I can do that,' or `That's the kind of person I want to be.'" -- SYLVESTER STALLONE

YO,I MADE IT! The day when my (unpublished) book on Sylvester Stallone reaches him personally is the day when I have gone the distance, after a journey which took me nine years!
My dream came true at 11.30pm last Jan 22 during the grand opening of Planet Hollywood Singapore at Liat Towers in Orchard Road, where superstars Stallone, Bruce Willis, Cindy Crawford, Wesley Snipes, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Jackie Chan graced the ceremony.
They turned the evening into a star-gazing experience for about 8,000 people who showed up for the event which was covered `live' by Singapore TV.
My `mission impossible' was to meet Stallone and hand him In The Eye Of The Tiger, a motivational book based on themes from his movies - from Rocky in 1976 to Rocky V in 1990 - which I first wrote in November 1988.
This almost decade-long journey was as exciting as any seat-gripping adventure movie. There were so many hurdles and doubts along the way that it was a miracle that I ever got to meet Stallone and hand him the book at all.

The Heart Of A Champion.
"Comeback stories, are the stories of my life." -- SYLVESTER STALLONE

IT HAS BEEN TWO DECADES since the characters of Rocky and Rambo hit our cinemas screens. Yet the names attract attention everytime they are mentioned, as though there is a certain part in us that responds to it.
Rocky and Rambo are two of Stallone's most famous roles. They are permanently etched in our minds as there are certain characteristics in them which tug on at our heart's strings as we root for the hero.
The reason why they take root so deeply in our subconscious mind is because they speak about the most basic of human quality, which is the need for survival.

Everybody has got dreams. But what are your dreams today, and what are you doing about it? What are the ideals and principles you hold on to, as you live for the future?
We are familiar with stories of hidden potentials and untapped talents being washed down the drain, simply because people are afraid to reach out for dreams which are higher than their grasp.
But there comes a time when we must look at the mirror and ask ourselves: "Is this the kind of life I dream of," and, "Is this all that I can be?"

Rocky and Rambo are positive role models unto today's generation because they symbolise the indomitable spirit of man within all of us, who rise above life's challenges to emerge the victor.
Rocky and Rambo provide the guidelines for our conscience as we live for the future. Most of all, they talk about the noble qualities of hope, valor, and love.
Let's take a trip down memory lane and look at Stallone's films once again, and study the principles that make him into a living legend and the greatest action star of all times.
Let's discover the nuggets of truth expounded in his films, and we rise to the challenges of the next millennium In The Eye of the Tiger!
